Grave Yard Index and Plans

old church from north

In March1973 members of the church carried out a survey of the churchyard before most of the headstones were moved prior to landscaping. The area was divided into plots, each grave within a plot numbered and the names on each headstone and tombstone recorded. From these plot lists an alphabetical Index has been made from which name, plot and grave number can be found. Taking the plot and grave number to Transcriptions it's then possible to see all occupants of that grave listed together. The same numbers can also be used to find the position of the grave in Plan.

Hope Street Grave Yard

Hope St

Hope Street cemetery was opened on part of the Glebe Land in 1888 after the cemetery at St Bartholomew's was closed; no new graves could be opened there and further burials were restricted. The matter was raised in the House.
The grave yard is now severely overgrown, the presence of Japanese Knotweed hampering maintenance, and few graves or headstones are visible.

Although every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of these lists original records should be consulted for verification.
