PARKS
( and open spaces )

The early 20th century was a time of prosperity for the town with twenty two mills giving employment to most of the workforce. The hours were long and hard and the townsfolk were intent on enjoying their leisure time. Walking in the surrounding country side, often taking a picnic, was popular but most activities revolved around the church each having its own football and cricket team.

To cater for some of the organised sports and general recreation land has been acquired by the council or donated by generous townspeople.
