The Great Harwood Appreciation Society, for me, is a link with home. Since leaving England in 1965, I have lived in Panama, Papua New Guinea, and now the United States, and I began to feel stateless, or as someone described me, as mid-Atlantic. Perhaps a little like Neil Diamond, talking to the chair, with no-one there, to hear me at all. But reading the jokes about Tottleworth Docks, or trying to remember the lay-out of the streets, or even feeling involved in shopping at the Coop, has re-anchored me to home. Last week, I looked up some Lancashire poetry, including Joan Pomfret's work. When I say "Howd on theer!", I still have to translate, but I'm more likely to say it today, than I was before I found this wonderful, unique website. Keep the emails coming everyone!
