Albert Mercer born 26 th April 1897 was the son of Isaac & Ann (nee Mattison). He was baptised at St Bartholomew on 19 th May that year, when his parents were living at 28 Blackburn Road. He died in Mesopotamia on 1 st July 1916 where he had been wounded by a sword the previous week and was buried at Amara Cemetery. He was named after his father's brother Albert, who died in infancy and was the son of Henry Mercer and Maryann (nee Clough). Alice's Grandfather was a year older than Albert and when he failed to return home, named his son, Alice's father, after him when he was born exactly a year later.
